Churches Hiring

Last updated May 28, 2026

Ministry opportunities in Rockford offer pastors the chance to serve in Illinois's third-largest city, where a diverse religious landscape includes strong Catholic, Baptist, and Methodist congregations alongside growing non-denominational and evangelical churches that actively engage with the community's working-class families and students from nearby universities. While the current hiring trend shows some decline across the broader Illinois region, Rockford's slightly above-average cost of living (104.7) remains manageable with senior pastor salaries typically ranging from $58,000 to $105,000 depending on congregation size and denomination. The city's industrial heritage and mix of urban and suburban neighborhoods create unique ministry contexts, from established downtown churches with deep community roots to newer suburban plants focused on reaching young families in the growing residential areas.
