Children’s Minister Job Description Reports To: Senior Minister of Jefferson Street Christian Church Positions Supervised: Student Minister POSITION SUMMARY: The Children’s Minister is commissioned to glorify God by helping Jefferson Street Christian Church disciple the next generation. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education: This position prefers a Ministry Degree. A qualified candidate without a degree but with the exceptional, proven life and professional experience will also be given consideration. Ordination is desired. Skills & Abilities: Ability to work with and understand the developmental stages of children and youth. Exceptional communication and organizational skills and the ability to lead a team of volunteers and to communicate effectively with parents or guardians. Proven ability to identify, recruit and train volunteers. This person will be an immersed believer in Jesus Christ and be a member in good standing with the Christian churches/Churches of Christ non-denominational. This person will be expected to become a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church. Work Environment: The church will provide an office, computer and general supplies to fulfill job responsibilities. The Children’s Minister will be expected to post at least 15 hours of regular office time each week with flexibility for evening meetings, classes, etc. This position is a minimum of 40 hours per week with Sunday considered a work day.

Our Church – Founded in 1992, SonLight Community Church is part of the FEC, Fellowship of Evangelical Churches. We are a church of 180 and growing. We have a growing Children's ministry and we feel God is bringing SonLight to the next level and our next children's ministry coordinator will be a vital part of that. This is a Part-Time salaried position. These hours include, but are not limited to: - Sunday mornings (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) - Wednesday evenings (when Wednesday night programs are in session) - At least one day per week in the office for staff meetings - Special church events and services, including Christmas, Easter, and other ministry activities as needed. Below are the responsibilities and qualifications the church has identified for this role: Key Responsibilities: - Oversee the ministries of children and youth from Birth-5th grade. - Evaluate overall children’s ministry Sunday morning format. - Help grow church attendance by creating and implementing a strategy that draws families into the church through children’s ministry. - Pray for, recruit, lead, observe, evaluate, develop and encourage teams of volunteers so that they are operating in their strengths, growing in areas of weakness and being most effective in their roles. This includes, but is not limited to, times of fellowship, training, and spiritual growth. - Schedule weekly children’s ministry volunteers. - Evaluate current curriculum and select and implement new curriculum if needed. - Provide Sunday morning support for teachers and volunteers making sure Classrooms are prepared. - Pray for and minister to families and aid in connecting what happens on Sunday morning with what happens at home. - Coordinate annual VBS. - Plan a Wednesday night children’s ministry program. - Be relational and present in your ministry role. This is done by actively interacting with parents and children. - Plan teacher/volunteer training 2-4 times a year. - Be a model for those who attend SonLight Community Church by being an example of personal integrity, discipleship, and evangelism. - Oversee budgets for children’s ministry. - Attend all weekly staff meetings and events. - Communicate with church leaders and the congregation regarding the purpose, value and procedures of children’s ministry. - Report directly to the Lead Pastor. Skills and Qualifications: - Candidates should have a passion for children’s ministry. - Be a strong believer in Christ and spiritually mature. - Passionate about raising the Next Generation of kids with families in the church, people in the community, and volunteers. - Able to build a team that leads the children’s ministry by inspiring others to serve on the team. - Driven to reach kids who do not know Christ by being relevant and providing a great space for them to connect with other kids and teachers. - Be an advocate for connecting with parents and equipping them to be the leader of their child’s spiritual development. Position Summary This provides leadership, vision, and oversight for Children’s Ministry at Grace Church at Willow Valley. This role ensures that children are discipled in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment, through equipping volunteers and supporting families. This person will work closely with pastoral staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and parents to align children’s discipleship with the mission and values of the church. Relationships To the Associate Pastor of Ministries: Reports directly for supervision, guidance, and accountability. To the Staff: Collaborates with staff to integrate children’s discipleship into the broader mission of the church. To Ministry Leaders and Volunteers: Recruits, equips, and supports volunteers to faithfully serve in children’s ministry programs. To Parents and Families: Communicates consistently about Children’s Ministry opportunities, providing encouragement and resources to support discipleship at home. To Congregants and Guests: Extends hospitality to children and families, especially new or visiting families. Core ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Oversight - Direct and oversee all children’s ministry discipleship efforts, programs, and events. - Develop and lead a Children's Ministry Leadership Team to provide vision, support, and coordination for all children's ministry initiatives. - Oversee the implementation of the Child Protection Policy. - Partner with other ministries (e.g., Women’s, Global Outreach) to involve children in church-wide initiatives. Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Care - Recruit, screen, onboard, and equip volunteers. - Maintain volunteer schedules and ensure coverage for all needs. - Substitute or find substitutes for absent volunteer teachers when needed. - Coordinate Children’s Ministry activities for whole-church events as requested by pastors. Curriculum, Teaching & Program Delivery - In cooperation with the Associate Pastor of Ministries, select biblically sound curriculum for all Children’s Ministry programs. - Maintain a welcoming, safe, and well-organized Sunday morning environment Administration & Communication - Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, volunteers, and ministry leaders. - Oversee the organization and stewardship of children’s ministry resources, spaces, and materials. Qualifications - A credible testimony of conversion - Personal convictions align with the mission and doctrinal statement of Grace Church at Willow Valley. - A team-builder and delegator. - Relational and welcoming personality with strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Strong organizational and administrative ability, including scheduling and event coordination. - Competency with Microsoft Office Suite, church database systems, and related tools. - Self-starter, collaborative team player, organized and detail-oriented. - A prayerful, hospitable, and service-minded disposition. - Competent biblical knowledge to answer children’s, parent’s, and volunteer’s spiritual questions, and the ability to communicate the gospel accurately and clearly. - Ability to remain flexible and encouraging while serving in the ever-changing dynamics of children’s ministry.
