JOB SUMMARY El Camino Church Exists to Love God, Love People, and Share Jesus with the City of Tucson and Beyond. El Camino Church is: - Bible Centered - Inspired to Reach Out - Devoted to Service The Children’s Director is an integral part of the ministry team of El Camino and organizes, directs, and oversees all the children’s ministry activities of the church. This includes both Sunday morning programs and special activities throughout the week such as Vacation Bible School, and other new programs that may be implemented. The Children’s Director position coordinates teachers, helpers, and volunteers that are a key part of making the children’s ministry effective. An important skill needed is the ability to build relationships not only with children but also with parents, families, and volunteers. The Children’s Director is expected to integrate children’s ministries with all ministries and ministers of the Church in the spirit of teamwork and collaboration, offering personal skills and gifts to support the ongoing welfare, ministry, and edification of the Church. This person will have a passion for helping children develop a Biblical understanding of God and His Word. The children’s ministry of the church embraces an all-inclusive approach to ministry including teaching, music, prayer, and creative activities to help children understand, accept, and grow in the gospel. SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Maintains a life of personal and spiritual development and accountability, through a good understanding of the Bible. - Refrains from any social or private behavior considered or interpreted as unbecoming a Christian and a devoted follower of Christ. - Exemplifies the utmost integrity and demonstrates character that is “above reproach.” - Makes his/her spouse and family a priority by striking an appropriate balance between ministry requirements and a biblical family focus. - Has church ministry experience in Children’s ministry. RELATIONSHIP TO THE CHURCH, PASTOR, AND STAFF - Practices a philosophy of following pastoral leadership. - Demonstrates loyalty to the Church, Ministry Staff, and Supervisor(s) - Demonstrates a desire and ability to help make other staff successful. - Relates well to others on a professional and personal level. - Maintains the highest level of confidentiality. STAFF ACCOUNTABILITY - Demonstrates an attitude of professional excellence in working with each ministry area. - Creates and maintains a work environment consistent with the Church’s culture. - Exemplifies a positive, “can-do” attitude. - Participates in weekly leadership and staff meetings. - Understands that our staff works together as one for the health of the whole Body of Christ, for the glory of God, and for the unity of our staff. MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS - Strong volunteer recruiting abilities. - Ability to select and adapt children’s curriculum that teaches the message of the Bible and God’s redemptive plan through children’s church and activities that integrate with the church’s mission. - Strong organizational skills and ability to organize multiple tasks and complex projects, often simultaneously. - Knowledge and understanding of the current trends and resources of children’s ministry. - Good computer skills, including the ability to utilize the internet and either Macintosh or Microsoft presentation, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. - Ability to be a team player. - Ability to work a flexible schedule. - Excellent professional references. DESIRABLE SKILLS Oral and written communication skills and abilities to interact with the families, volunteers and leadership. Knowledge of administrative procedures. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Cast the vision for a vibrant Children’s Ministry that will allow kids to experience God, in a relevant and relational way. Develop a dynamic leadership team of volunteers through providing resources, biblical worldview trainings, and implementing appreciation strategies. Collaborate with the Strategic Leadership Team ways to serve families at El Camino by helping parents supplement their parenting skills to and improve their relationship with their children. Review and select curriculum materials for children’s church and other programs held in conjunction with adult worship and fellowship activities. Use effective modes of communication including phone, text, emails, social media, mailings, etc. designed to keep families engaged and informed of current programs, projects, and opportunities. Coordinate and staff nursery/preschool worship care and childcare during agreed upon church-wide events. Design, create, and/or coordinate materials for children’s activities such as vacation bible school, arts and crafts camps, music programs, or other activities. Participate in leadership meetings and advise leadership on children’s ministry matters, focusing on integrating those operations in the mission of the church.
