Position Summary The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for the musical aspects of worship services and church events, aiming to connect the congregation with God through music. Works with Pastor to plan for a year in advance for special services Key Responsibilities & Duties Worship Planning and Leadership: Plan music for services and events in concert with pastoral staff needs, select appropriate music aligned with scripture and liturgical seasons, provide or arrange musical accompaniment, lead ensembles, encourage congregational singing, will coordinate with the Hand bell Director Prepare for choir practices with music practiced at least 3 Sundays in advance and will start practicing holiday music (e.g.,Christmas) with choir several months in advance. Recruitment and Mentor-ship: Recruit and train volunteer musicians, provide coaching, and potentially develop children's and youth music programs. Administration and Resource Management: Manage the music budget, maintain musical resources, coordinate schedules, ensure copyright compliance, and collaborate with the technical team. Collaboration and Community: Attend staff and committee meetings as appropriate, serve as a liaison for community outreach, and actively participate in church life. Maintain church instruments: Fill the piano humidifiers, make sure musical equipment is operational; monitor the performance of the the musical equipment and recommend/coordinate repairs as directed by the Head of Trustees. Preferred Qualifications and Skills Experience in church/Christian faith music directing. Strong musical proficiency, including especially piano/(organ a plus) skills. Ability to lead singing and direct ensembles. Knowledge of sacred music and diverse worship styles. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Experience directing a handbell choir is preferred. The Music Director may oversee or directly lead the handbell ministry, including rehearsals and participation in worship services. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is often preferred (but not required). Benefits: Two weeks paid vacation/annually after successful probation period. This position is a W-2 employee position of Bethany Methodist Church-Hampton and is not an independent contractor or contract position.
