Ministry Salaries & Market Data in Massachusetts

Ministry opportunities in this historic New England state span approximately 3,800 churches, with Catholic, Episcopal, and Non-Denominational congregations representing the largest denominational presence. While the hiring trend is currently declining, senior pastor positions that do become available typically offer salaries ranging from $68,000 to $120,000, which pastors should weigh against the higher cost of living with an index of 135.8 (compared to the national average of 100). The median home price of $550,000 reflects the state's expensive housing market, making it important for ministry candidates to carefully consider compensation packages and housing allowances. Despite these financial considerations, Massachusetts offers rich opportunities to serve in communities with deep religious heritage and diverse theological traditions.
