Director of Middle School Ministry

Position Overview The Director of Middle School Ministry is responsible for making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through focused leadership of 7th–8th grade students and intentional ministry to girls in grades 7–12. This role provides vision, leadership, and programming for middle school students while cultivating a relational and discipleship-driven girls ministry across the student ministry. The Director will create environments where students are known, loved, and challenged to grow in their faith, while equipping volunteers and partnering with families to support spiritual formation. As a committed follower of Jesus Christ and spiritual leader, this person will lead with energy, creativity, and intentionality, helping students take meaningful steps in their relationship with Christ and their connection to the church. Principal Duties Middle School Ministry Leadership (7th–8th Grade) - Provide overall vision, leadership, and direction for middle school ministry - Plan and lead Sunday School for 7th–8th grade students - Develop and lead Wednesday night Bible studies for middle school students - Create engaging, age-appropriate teaching that is biblically grounded and relationally engaging - Build consistent relationships with students through presence, communication, and follow-up - Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers for middle school ministry environments - Partner with parents to support the spiritual growth of their students Girls Ministry (7th–12th Grade) - Develop and lead a cohesive girls ministry across the student ministry - Plan and host regular girls’ gatherings, events, or small groups - Create Bible studies and discipleship opportunities specifically for female students - Provide relational care, mentorship, and spiritual guidance for girls - Equip female volunteers and leaders to invest in students Student Ministry Integration - Support Sunday night student ministry programming as part of the overall youth ministry team - Collaborate with the Director of Student Ministry in planning events, retreats, and trips - Assist in executing student ministry-wide initiatives, missions, and outreach opportunities - Help create a unified vision and culture across all student ministry environments Relational Ministry & Presence - Attend student extracurricular activities, games, and school events - Build connections with local schools, FCA, and community organizations - Maintain consistent communication with students and families - Create intentional connection points for new students to feel welcomed and known Administrative & Team Responsibilities - Participate in weekly staff meetings and student ministry planning meetings - Assist with communication efforts, including social media and parent communication - Maintain attendance records and ministry organization systems - Operate within the approved student ministry budget - Abide by and enforce Safe Sanctuaries policies - Be available to students, families, and staff through regular office hours and communication Qualifications - A growing and active personal faith in Jesus Christ, consistent with the theology and practices of the United Methodist Church - Passion for student discipleship, especially middle school students and young women - Bachelor’s degree in ministry, education, or related field preferred - Experience in student ministry or related leadership (2–5 years preferred) - Strong teaching, relational, and leadership skills - Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteers - Strong organizational and communication abilities Staff Expectations & Working Environment The Director of Middle School Ministry, along with all employees of First United Methodist Church, is expected to: Behave in a manner that brings honor to Christ and the church.
