Victorville, CA

CommunicationsFull-TimeOn-Site

$70,700 - $80,300

Position Summary The Communications Director serves as the team leader of HDC's Communications department. This role is primarily one of leadership, project management, and ministry partnership — casting vision for the team, maintaining healthy relationships with ministry client groups, and ensuring the team has the systems and support needed to do excellent work. While this person may bring specialized skills in graphic design, video production, or social media, day-to-day creative execution represents only a portion of the role. The majority of the job is leading people, managing projects, and serving as a bridge between the Communications team and the ministries they support. Reporting & Key Relationships - Oversees a team of three direct reports: Graphic Design Assistant Director, Videographer Assistant Director, and Communications Assistant Director. - Serves as the primary point of contact for ministry client groups including Kids, Students, Growth, Adults, Missions, Young Adults, and the Administrative team. - Partners with the Senior Pastor to develop visual and video support for teaching series. - Contributes creative direction for major church events including Christmas, Easter, and One Conference. Core Responsibilities Team Leadership - Lead, develop, and support the Communications team with a servant's heart, modeling humility, integrity, and genuine care (1 Peter 5:1–4). - Hold regular 1:1s with each direct report to develop skills, set clear expectations, and build capacity. - Recruit, train, and evaluate team members; identify growth opportunities and create individual development plans. Project Management - Serve as the primary project manager for the Communications team, ensuring deadlines are met and ministry requests are reasonable and well-scoped. - Optimize team support systems including ClickUp, intake forms, and automations to maximize team efficiency and clarity. - Oversee the full production pipeline across the team's three core functions: Design, Video, and Promotion (Social Media, Website, Weekend Announcements, and Mass Communication). - Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks before they impact delivery. Ministry Partnership - Cultivate strong, consistent working relationships with each ministry client group, functioning as a trusted partner rather than a vendor. - Guide the team to deliver accurate, excellent communication support that reflects each ministry's needs and HDC's broader mission. - Contribute to the creative direction of major church-wide events and seasonal campaigns. - Assist the Senior Pastor with visual and video needs for teaching series. - Develop and champion communication strategies for church initiatives and events. Strategy & Operations - Think strategically about the future of HDC's communications and lead the team through thoughtful transitions into new practices and platforms. - Develop and maintain policies, workflows, and processes that enable consistent, high-quality output across all ministries and campuses. - Build buy-in with senior leaders around communication priorities and team capacity. - Participate in prayer, staff meetings, and other team gatherings as required. Position Qualifications - Bachelor's degree preferred. - 5+ years of experience in communications, media, or a related field (church communications experience preferred). - Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team. - Background in at least one of the following: social media strategy, graphic design, or video production. Broad working knowledge across multiple disciplines is a plus. - Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, manage competing requests, and keep a team on track. - Relational and collaborative — able to maintain healthy working relationships across a variety of ministry contexts. - Proficient in or willing to learn project management tools (e.g., ClickUp) and communication/automation platforms. - Must adhere to HDC's Statement of Faith, Constitution, Practices and Policies. **Applicants must submit Cover Letter, Resume, and Portfolio in one of 4 disciplines (Video, Graphic Design, Marketing, or Social Media) to be considered for the role.
