Worship Leader Job Description

Position Type: Full Time

Position Summary

CrossCreek Church is seeking a full-time Worship Leader to provide pastoral, spiritual, and organizational leadership for the worship ministry. This individual will champion CrossCreek's mission of leading every generation to know and follow Jesus by cultivating Christ-centered worship, developing leaders, discipling volunteers, and building healthy ministry systems that extend beyond Sunday mornings.

The Worship Leader will work closely with the Senior Pastor, Pastor of Community Engagement and staff to create worship environments that support the preaching of God's Word, engage the congregation, and develop the next generation of worship and production leaders.

Primary Responsibilities Spiritual Leadership

• Model the biblical qualifications and character expected of a church pastor (1 Timothy 3).
• Lead from a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Shepherd the worship ministry through discipleship, encouragement, and pastoral care.
• Invest in volunteers, musicians, and leaders spiritually as well as musically.
• Foster a culture of prayer, humility, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
• Support the overall mission, vision, and values of CrossCreek Church.

Worship Leadership

• Plan and lead engaging, Christ-centered worship services and special events.
• Lead worship vocally and instrumentally with musical excellence.
• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor on sermon planning and worship flow.
• Ensure worship experiences effectively support biblical teaching and congregational participation.
• Continue developing both in-person and online worship experiences.

Worship & Production Team Leadership

• Recruit, equip, schedule, and develop worship and production volunteers.
• Provide leadership for vocalists, instrumentalists, worship leaders, and technical arts teams.
• Foster a culture of excellence, preparation, and spiritual health.
• Oversee worship planning systems, rehearsal processes, and ministry communication.
• Utilize current worship technologies, including Planning Center and related ministry software.

Leadership Development

A significant responsibility of this role is developing people, not simply leading services.

Responsibilities include:

• Identify and mentor emerging worship leaders.
• Develop musicians, vocalists, and production volunteers.
• Invest in CrossCreek's Residency Program through coaching and leadership development.
• Create leadership pathways for future worship pastors and ministry leaders.
• Lead weekly staff worship gatherings.
• Help cultivate a healthy volunteer culture throughout the worship ministry.

Creative Leadership

• Encourage creativity that supports CrossCreek's mission and teaching.
• Help create meaningful worship moments that engage every generation.
• Collaborate with communications and creative teams on worship environments.
• Explore opportunities for original worship music and creative expression.
• Lead church-wide nights of worship, prayer gatherings, and leadership events as needed.

Qualifications

Spiritual Qualifications

• Demonstrates biblical character consistent with church leadership.
• Growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Strong commitment to Scripture and conservative evangelical theology.
• Passion for making disciples who make disciples.
• Ability to shepherd volunteers and ministry leaders.

Leadership Qualifications

• Proven experience leading worship in a healthy local church.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Collaborative leadership style.
• Ability to lead through influence, humility, and servant leadership.

Musical Qualifications

• Excellent vocal ability.
• Strong instrumental proficiency (guitar or piano preferred).
• Experience directing bands and vocal teams.
• Working knowledge of worship technology and production systems.
• Ability to create engaging worship experiences across multiple generations.

Preferred Experience

• 7–10+ years of worship ministry leadership experience.
• Experience leading multiple worship services.
• Experience developing worship leaders and ministry pipelines.
• Experience collaborating on church-wide ministry initiatives.
• Experience working alongside senior leadership teams.
