Job Description
FiveStone Community Church exists to be a church of disciples who are making disciples who CONNECT with God and others, GROW to be more like Jesus, and GO in service locally and globally.
We fulfill that mission by living out the Five Stones:
- Engaging People
- Experiencing Worship
- Embracing God’s Word
- Enriching the Family
- Empowering Purpose
The Student Minister is the primary champion of the Enriching the Family stone for our 7th–12th grade environments.
Position Summary We are looking for someone who loves teenagers and genuinely believes the local church is the greatest vehicle for life change on the planet. The Student Minister will provide spiritual leadership, vision, and day-to-day oversight for everything that touches our junior high and high school students and their families. The person who fills this seat will be invested in the lives of students, walking alongside them through the best and hardest moments of adolescence, while equipping parents to be the primary discipleship voice in the home.
Key Responsibilities
Family Discipleship & Vision
- Champion Enriching the Family: Build and own a clear, biblical, and practical discipleship strategy for students and their families—one that is simple enough to actually live out, and deep enough to produce lasting faith.
- Equip Parents: Give parents the resources, conversations, and confidence to lead their teenagers spiritually at home. Partner with them, don’t replace them.
- Smooth Transitions: Work closely with our Kids Ministry team to create a seamless faith journey from elementary school through high school graduation.
- Church-Wide Alignment: Keep student ministry tethered to the broader mission and vision of FiveStone, so we are always heading in the same direction as a staff.
Student Ministry Leadership
- Weekly Environments: Lead and oversee all student ministry gatherings—Sunday Morning Bible Study, mid-week programming, and other ongoing events and ministries that will fulfill the vision for Student Ministry with excellence and intentionality.
- Biblical Teaching: Prepare and deliver messages that are biblically grounded, culturally honest, and accessible to the real questions teenagers are asking.
- Safe & Welcoming Culture: Create environments where every student—regardless of where they are spiritually—feels safe, seen, and wanted.
- Programming & Curriculum: Oversee the structure of our student calendar, curriculum selection, and the overall format of how we engage students week to week.
- Student Leadership: Continue the development of our Student Leadership Team and help our students understand what it means to serve and to use their gifts for ministry.
Volunteer Recruitment & Development
- Build the Team: Actively recruit, screen (background checks required), and onboard adult leaders who genuinely love students and want to invest in the next generation.
- Equip & Train: Hold regular leader meetings and training opportunities so our volunteers are growing in their own faith while being equipped to lead small groups and mentor teenagers.
- Shepherd Your Leaders: Take care of the people who are taking care of students. Make sure your volunteer team feels supported, valued, and spiritually healthy.
- Ministry Safe: Keep accurate records of our leaders and training them on the appropriate and best practices of how to safely engage students.
Family Engagement & Communication
- Parent Partnership: Communicate consistently with parents—ministry updates, event details, curriculum recaps, and practical discipleship resources they can actually use.
- Accessible & Approachable: Be the kind of person families feel comfortable calling when life gets hard. Be a pastoral presence for parents navigating the teenage years, not just a youth program coordinator.
- Events & Experiences: Plan and execute camps, retreats, mission trips, and service projects that move students from passive attendance into active ownership of their faith.
Administration & Collaboration
- Budget Stewardship: Manage the student ministry budget responsibly and with accountability to church leadership.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all child and student safety policies, including background screenings and Ministry Safe trainings for all volunteers.
- Staff Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with the Lead Pastor and the full staff team to support church-wide initiatives, all-church series, and intergenerational moments.
Qualifications
Spiritual & Personal Character
- A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear sense of calling to student and family ministry.
- A genuine love for teenagers—including the awkward, the struggling, and the ones who aren’t sure they even believe yet.
- Demonstrates humility, integrity, and a servant-leader posture in every environment.
- Fully affirms FiveStone’s mission, vision, and statement of faith.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Biblical Studies, Youth Ministry, or a related field (preferred; equivalent experience will be seriously considered).
- 2–5 years of proven experience in a student ministry context within a local church.
- Track record of building and retaining healthy volunteer teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communicator—both from the stage and in writing to parents and leadership.
- Comfortable engaging with Gen Z and Gen Alpha culture, including an understanding of social media, mental health trends, and the pressures today’s students face.
- Highly relational and able to connect with students, parents, and volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple moving pieces without losing the relational core of the role.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $50,000 – $66,000, commensurate with experience and ministry track record.
- Health Benefits: Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
- Retirement: 3% employer contribution + up to an additional 3% matching 403(b).
- Cell Phone: $30 per month cellphone plan reimbursement
- Time Off: 15 days Vacation + 10 days PTO + designated holidays.
- Development: Leadership Development allowance for conferences, coaching, and ministry growth.
Our Commitment to You
FiveStone Community Church is committed to creating a healthy, Christ-centered staff culture where you can thrive—not just survive. We believe the best ministry happens when the person doing it is spiritually healthy, relationally supported, and growing. The Student Minister is one of the most important investments we make as a church. We take that seriously, and we want you to know you will be valued here.
