Sun Grove Church is located just outside California's capital of Sacramento in the fast-growing city of Elk Grove. Elk Grove is one of the more affordable places to live in California while still providing quick access to professional sports, the coast, national parks, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains including Lake Tahoe.

Lead Pastor Brian Werner is a visionary leader who has served in some of the most innovative and fastest-growing churches in America. Sun Grove owns a modern 45,000 sq. ft. facility, giving this ministry the space and infrastructure to do something significant. This Youth Pastor will have the freedom to dream big and have the support needed to see those dreams become reality.

Position Description

The Youth Pastor at Sun Grove is a foundational role. It’s an opportunity to build a thriving student ministry designed to reach the next generation. This leader will have staff support, dedicated youth facilities, a healthy budget, and mentorship from Lead Pastor Brian Werner, who spent years as a youth pastor himself.

Key Responsibilities

-Be the primary communicator for SG Youth.

-Oversee the planning and implementation of large and small group environments, mission trips, camps, retreats, and special events.

-Recruit, train, and retain ministry volunteers.

-Develop and execute an annual calendar of events.

-Successfully develop relationships with local middle school & high schools students & staff.

-Create an environment that attracts middle school & high school students within Sun Grove Church & outside of the church.

Innovative Sun Grove is thinking outside the box as to how the church reaches its community. Elk Grove is growing very quickly with new, young families. The church is always looking for fresh ways to serve the community. This leader will need to carry on this innovative spirit.

Relational Intelligence Being a relationally intelligent leader is a high value of the SG ministry philosophy.

Outward Focused This leader should be aggressive in the church’s vision to see lost students know Jesus. The right candidate will see Elk Grove, CA and all of its students, as their mission field.

Ability to Recruit, Develop and Retain Leaders The Youth Pastor should have a history of developing strong adult leadership. SG Youth has a good foundation with leaders who are committed to serving.

Motivated This role comes with real freedom and genuine support, and it requires someone who moves forward without needing to be pushed. A self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment will do well here.

Intentional It’s pivotal this leader can plan ahead, and to clearly communicate vision and direction. A leader who can plan ahead, dream big, motivate themselves will thrive in this collaborative environment.

Highly Preferred for a Candidate:

-Some formal theological training.

-Two years’ experience leading in a growing youth ministry.

-A history of communicating to adults on Sunday mornings
