Job Description

The Associate Pastor of Children and Outreach is charged with planning outreach events, overseeing the Family Ministry Team, leading the KiX Children’s Ministry, and partnering with the Lead Pastor to promote spiritual maturity and transformation in the lives of the people of Parkgate.

GENERAL ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the pastoral staff to train, equip, empower, and release people into ministry inside and outside our church.
  • Assist the Lead Pastor and other staff, as needed, in carrying out other projects and tasks that advance the overall vision and mission of the church.
  • Participate in the Texas Ministry of the Church of God through yearly state meetings and become licensed/ordained.
  • Lead prayer, announcements, and other activities in worship gatherings as needed.
  • Work with the Lead Pastor to provide pastoral care to the congregation through hospital visitation, counseling, preaching, and officiating weddings and funerals.
  • Participate in Leadership LIVE.
  • Disciple at least one person in a grace-filled and contagious environment that shares the principles of the Gospel and calls people to give their lives to Christ and demonstrate that commitment in baptism.
  • Set, attain, evaluate, and modify short- and long-term goals for the KiX Ministry and Outreach that align with PCC's vision and mission.

SPECIFIC CHILDREN’S MINISTRY TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and lead an ongoing, thriving ministry for children, specifically from birth through 5th grade. Specific goals for ministry development will be mutually agreed upon each year between the Lead Pastor and the Associate Pastor. Major areas of concern and responsibility are the following:
  • Provide sound spiritual instruction and development for children.
  • They should be directed in an environment that shares the principles of the Gospel and calls them to give their lives to Christ and to demonstrate that commitment in baptism.
  • KiX Children should be exposed to and encouraged in the daily disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, and service, appropriate to their age level.
  • Write or purchase KiX curriculum as needed.
  • Organize & plan events designed for children and their families – i.e., VBS, summer camps, special outreach events, Intentional Mini’s, etc. Build meaningful relationships with each child by leading and participating in children’s ministry activities.
  • Develop a team of adult leaders who will help lead and guide the overall ministry. This team will be dynamic people committed to children and their spiritual development. They will be instrumental in multiplying the ministry's effectiveness and broadening its reach both inside and outside Parkgate.
  • Create an ongoing system for training and development for volunteers and leaders.
  • Encourage and lead children and their families to become disciple makers.
  • Provide resources for parents and guide them in their role as spiritual nurturers and mentors for their children. Develop creative ways to network with parents that deepen their parenting skills.
  • Provide a “spiritual bridge” from KiX ministry to student ministry, making the transition as seamless as possible for children and their parents.
  • Work with the pastoral staff to train, equip, empower, and release people into ministry inside and outside the church.
  • Assist the Lead Pastor and other staff in carrying out other projects and tasks that advance the overall vision and mission of the church.

SPECIFIC OUTREACH RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan regular outreach opportunities for Parkgate to get involved in.
  • Build teams of people who can ministry to our community.

SPECIFIC FAMILY MINISTRY TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and lead big, church-wide events each year (Lost Loves, Fish Fry, Fall Festival, Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, etc.).
  • Oversee the Family Ministry team.

LEADERSHIP:

  • Manage yourself so that you are a growing disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Lead and participate in the life of PCC.
  • Mentor leaders and/or church members through weekly meetings (either one-on-one or in triads).
  • Carry the vision of PCC.
  • Provide coverage when absent due to illness, vacation, conference attendance, etc.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are the required basic qualifications for the position:

  • Born-again believer with a maturing relationship with Christ.
  • Demonstrate faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-13.
  • Exemplify obedience to the Word of God and devotion to a deeply-rooted prayer life.
  • A strong desire (a calling) to serve God in the position.
  • A firm grasp of the content and meaning of the Biblical text.
  • Doctrinal alignment with Church of God (Anderson, IN), in general, and Parkgate Community Church, specifically.
  • Be able to plan, organize, and implement ministry programs.
  • Be a self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, possessing relational skills with team members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Function as a team player.
  • Must have the ability to receive criticism and correction with a yielded heart.
  • Must have a 4-year college degree (seminary not necessary)[1]

COMPENSATION: This position will offer full-time, salaried compensation, including health, dental, and disability benefits, holiday and vacation pay, retirement contributions, mileage reimbursement, and reimbursement for continuing education expenses. $40,000 a year plus $26,000 in benefits for a total package of $66,000.
