CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Spiritual Leadership & Teaching
- Develop and teach age-appropriate, biblically sound curriculum rooted in the authority of Scripture
- Lead or oversee children's church, Sunday school classes, and any midweek programs
- Ensure all teaching aligns with the doctrinal statement of the church
- Model a personal, growing walk with Christ before children, parents, and volunteers
Volunteer Recruitment & Development
- Recruit, train, and shepherd a team of volunteers to staff all children's ministry areas
- Conduct regular volunteer meetings and provide ongoing encouragement and accountability
- Ensure all volunteers understand and follow child safety and protection policies
Parental Partnership
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding curriculum, events, and spiritual development of their children
- Cast vision for the role of the home as the primary place of discipleship
- Be available to counsel and pray with parents regarding the spiritual needs of their children
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate attendance and participation records
- Manage the children's ministry budget responsibly and with accountability to leadership
- Coordinate the scheduling of classrooms, volunteers, and events
- Maintain and update child check-in and safety procedures
Event Planning & Programming
- Plan and execute special events such as Vacation Bible School (VBS), holiday programs, and attend Jr. Camp
- Coordinate with other ministry areas for churchwide events
Child Safety & Compliance
- Conduct or coordinate background checks on all volunteers working with children
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment in all children's spaces
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Genuine, saving faith in Jesus Christ and active membership in a local Baptist church
- A clear call to children's ministry and a demonstrable love for children
- Strong working knowledge of the Bible and ability to teach it clearly and accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively with children across multiple age groups
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willing to submit to and work cooperatively under the authority of the Senior Pastor
Preferred (but not required for the right candidate)
- Formal education or training in Christian education, Bible, theology, or a related field
- Previous experience in children's ministry leadership
- Familiarity with children's curriculum resources and VBS programs
- Basic computer and communication skills (email, planning tools, social media for ministry use)
HOURS & COMPENSATION
- Classification: Part-time, flexible hours
- Expected Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week (negotiable based on church needs and candidate availability)
- Required Presence: All church service and main church activities
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience and church budget
