Job Description

Grace Community Church is asking God to connect us with a God-glorifying, Christ-exalting, Spirit-filled man of God who He has called into pastoral ministry with a heart for students and their families. This man will have a high view of scripture and the importance of sound doctrine, combined with a heart that has been overwhelmed and humbled by God's lavish love for him. The person God brings to Grace Community Church will find a healthy youth group of about fifty students waiting for him, along with supportive parents and a committed team of volunteers. He will also find a brand new youth and children complex currently being added to our existing building. He will also interact with various adult ministries at Grace.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead Senior High and Junior High ministry: The goal of this ministry is to disciple students so that they might grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Peter 3:18). This requires skilled teaching of God's Word combined with a passion to build meaningful personal relationships with the students. There is truth to the saying, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
  • Interact with parents: Grace's Youth/Family Life Pastor is not a replacement hired to do that which parents ought to be doing. He is a resource to help parents by engaging with them on all matters pertaining to living the Christian life. In all these things he is functioning as a shepherd.
  • Equip and lead a team of volunteers and help them grow in understanding and implementing a biblical philosophy of ministry.
  • Coordinate with church staff: The Youth/Family Life Pastor will be part of a ministry team that loves and supports one another. The staff shares a common philosophy of ministry and has similar ministry goals.
  • Develop a young adult ministry: Grace Community has several young adults who are looking to develop a ministry of encouragement and outreach to their peer group. The Youth/Family Life Pastor will help equip leaders for this ministry and provide guidance to them.
  • Pursue the Great Commission: The Youth/Family Life Pastor will value evangelism and will include this in his equipping ministry with Grace students. Mission trips and service projects are included in this.
  • Build community through fellowship and group activities: Entertainment will never drive Grace youth ministries, but doing fun things together as a group is a helpful element for building relationships and community.

Qualifications:

  • Testimony and evidence of a close personal walk with Jesus Christ
  • Agreement with Grace Community's teaching position, not out of necessity but out of conviction
  • A commitment to the qualifications of I Timothy 3:1-7 with strong teaching and personal communication skills
  • Possession of a biblical worldview, including a biblical philosophy of youth ministry and the basics of biblical counseling
  • A Christ-centered family life
  • Meaningful references from people familiar with the applicant's Christian testimony and experience

Education and Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree and/or seminary training. A graduate degree is not required, but within his educational background the applicant will have significant training for ministry.
  • Three or more years of fruitful ministry experience within a church setting under pastoral leadership, or an appropriate equivalent of ministry experience.

THE APPLICATION AND OUR PROMISE TO YOU:

No applicant will be ignored. Grace Community will seek to communicate with each applicant on a timely basis. To apply:

  • Visit gracecommunity.net and familiarize yourself with our church and our beliefs
  • Submit a brief cover letter explaining why you want to be considered for this position
  • Submit a 1-2 page testimony including your sense of God calling you into ministry
  • Submit a resume

NOTE: Additional information will be requested if the process reaches a second step.

Compensation: Approximately $45,000-$50,000 with benefits including a very generous health insurance plan
