Youth/Young Adult Pastor Job Description
Summary: This full-time position is an opportunity to serve the body of Christ by allowing one’s being with Jesus to overflow into leading and guiding the Middle School, High School, and Young Adults ministries at Montavilla Church.
Reports To: Lead Pastor
Hours: Full-time (Salary)
Pay: $45-50K (depending on experience) plus benefits, vacation, and sick pay.
Required Attendance:
- Staff meeting - Every Monday at 2:00 pm
- Ministry Leadership Team Meeting - 1st Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm
- Regular check-ins with the Lead Pastor
- Regular check-ins with Youth Group staff and Young Adults staff
- Wednesday night Youth Group at 7:00 pm
- Pastoral oversight of Young Adults ministry
- Occasional youth events
General Qualifications:
- Born-again Christian
- Model biblical commitment and become a member of Montavilla Church.
- Model a Christ-like character in speech, attitude, and biblical standards of morality and sexuality (1 Tim. 4:12; Luke 6:40; Col. 3:17; Titus 2:7–8; 1 Thess. 2:10, 5:22).
- Demonstrate a priority and commitment to regularly be still before the Lord (Psalm 46:10) - seeking His presence, wisdom, and guidance.
- Organized, self-motivated, and takes initiative.
- Committed to Montavilla’s mission, vision, values, and beliefs.
- Holds a pastoral philosophy of equipping and discipling.
- Strong teacher with a love for God's word
- Demonstrates a relational style of leadership – committed to a team approach.
- Possesses a joyful spirit and good sense of humor.
- Able to work without direct supervision.
- Available to Lead Pastor, other staff, parents, and youth workers of the church.
- Spanish fluency a plus but not required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and sustain a comprehensive growth strategy that includes Middle School, High School, and Young Adults ministries that includes the English and Hispanic communities.
- Work with Young Adults leaders and staff to develop a redefined and renewed vision for the Young Adults ministry while helping secure a healthy pathway from youth ministry into adult church life.
- Nurture a unified youth strategy between the English and Hispanic communities.
- Provide overall pastoral care for the youth and young adults by offering biblical guidance and support to help youth and young adults navigate personal, academic, work, and peer-related challenges.
- Invest in and nurture youth staff and student leaders.
- Attend worship services and various church events while encouraging the youth and young adults to do likewise (lead by example).
- Continue one’s own personal growth and development through external input.
- Build bridges between the church and the surrounding public school system and ministries.
- Recruit, disciple, equip, and empower youth staff and parents.
- Identify, recruit, equip, and mentor a dedicated leadership team passionate about disciplining and investing in the youth and young adult communities.
- Foster a welcoming environment where youth and young adults can deepen their faith through biblical teaching, build authentic Christ-centered relationships, and engage in local and global service.
- Lead and support Youth and Young Adults ministry staff - ensuring alignment with the church's mission, vision, and values.
- Collaborate with other ministries at Montavilla to create a seamless transition for the elementary into youth, youth into young adults, and young adults into other groups/ministries at Montavilla.
- Plan teaching topics and curriculum with Youth staff and Young Adults leaders along with the Lead Pastor.
- Be intentional in the personal lives of the youth (either directly or through youth leaders) to support youth outside of church and youth group activities.
- Manage Youth and Young Adults ministry budget.
Education or Occupational Experience:
- Youth Pastor experience preferred.
- Internship with a youth ministry and/or serving on youth staff for 2+ years minimum.
- Theological Degree preferred but not required.
