Work Experience

Must be able to demonstrate, by three years of directly related church experience or five years of other applicable work, the skills required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the role as defined below.

Educational Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and completion or pursuit of a relevant seminary degree is required.

Character Qualifications

Must be a committed disciple of Jesus Christ who affirms the doctrinal positions of Grace Church. Must demonstrate a prioritization of their own personal relationship with Jesus through the regular practice of prayer and Scripture study and a desire to continue to grow in spiritual maturity and discipleship. Should demonstrate a strong desire to help others grow in their discipleship to Christ and commit to plans that will further that mission. Should demonstrate humility and model servant leadership to the staff and congregation.

Personal Skills

Must demonstrate a love and patience for working with students. Must be able to handle conflict and discipline with care. Should be comfortable speaking with parents of teenagers. Must be able to facilitate ministries within a church setting while shepherding the people involved with a caring heart. Must be able to organize people and delegate effectively in order to accomplish job functions. Should be comfortable speaking in public and able to communicate clearly. Should be able to manage multiple tasks at once and maintain continuity with other ministry departments. Proficiency in modern office work, including computer literacy, is expected. Should be self-motivated and must be able to maintain his or her own schedule and meet deadlines with minimal assistance.

Principal Function

The role of the Student Pastor is to effectively carry out the mission of Grace Church within the student ministry with the guidance and oversight of the Elders and the Lead Pastor. Student Pastor functions as a relationship builder to middle and high school students and manager of the ministry for the purpose of helping students mature in their relationship with Jesus as well as leading a team of volunteers helping to carry out the mission of Grace Church.

The Grace Church Elders’ intent for all Pastors is that they fulfill the following duties in a spirit of servant leadership and pastoral care, and that they appropriately facilitate and delegate to others so that they maintain the margin to care for their own personal spiritual health and wellness.

Pastor/Shepherd

Equip the saints for the work of ministry

  • Shepherd church members with prayer and biblical guidance, visit the sick, and participate in weddings and funerals as needed
  • Provide Biblical teaching to appropriate audiences when needed
  • Coordinate and provide leadership to committees and volunteer teams as needed
  • Provide opportunities for members to serve and connect in the church
  • Regularly update the prayer board based on connections with church members
  • Be a consistent presence for the church family by attending church related events and gatherings
  • Contribute to church-wide ministry initiatives by participating in the following meetings: Pastoral Team, Pulpit Development, Worship Planning, Full Staff, and Calendar Planning meetings
  • Attend Elder meetings and provide information to Elders as requested
  • Participate in departmental or team meetings as requested by the Lead Pastor

Student Ministry Leader

Care for individual students and guide them in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Focus pastoral care on students and families
  • Stay up to date on best practices for student ministry
  • Coordinate and lead middle and high school ministry weekly programs
  • Oversee and develop all curriculum and teaching for middle and high school students
  • Coordinate seasonal programs to further discipleship and connection
  • Be personally involved in every ministry opportunity designed for the entire group
  • Make and maintain personal connections with regular participants in the ministry to 6th-12th grade students
  • Formulate ways to engage with students outside of the church walls and be proactive in ministering to them beyond church office hours
  • Communicate clearly the scheduled plans for the ministry to parents, students, and leaders

Student Ministry Administrator

Oversee the administrative operations of the student ministry department, including supervision of interns and volunteers.

  • Facilitate the training and development of student ministry interns and volunteer leadership team
  • Coordinate and lead volunteer meetings to cast a vision, clarify their purposes, and motivate the team
  • Create and maintain a budget for student ministry
  • Conduct direct face to face status updates with each intern and support staff on a regular basis
  • Carry out all procedures and policies for areas that fall under the student ministry department
  • Obtain and organize all necessary permission forms and other documentation
  • Work with the facilities team to maintain all student ministry supplies, facilities, and equipment
