As Senior Director of Human Resources & Church Operations, you’ll oversee Cross View’s primary human resources functions and other operations while promoting a healthy, Christ-centered workplace rooted in trust and accountability. Subject to the Senior Pastor’s oversight, you’ll work closely with the Senior Pastor and church leadership to perform important human resources and operational functions as well as overseeing several other employees who perform financial, administrative, and multimedia work.

Overall Duties & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for Cross View’s and its Early Childhood Center’s (ECC) HR functions. Ensure the church and ECC comply with the church’s constitution, bylaws, policies of the Church Council, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Responsibility for overseeing Cross View’s and the ECC’s operations. Ensure that all church and ECC operations comply with church’s constitution, bylaws, and policies of Church Council
  • Oversight of Cross View’s financial, administrative, and multimedia functions, with day-to-day duties performed by several other church employees
  • Liaison to the Senior Pastor and church leadership regarding human resources, legal, and operational matters. Duties include submitting monthly written reports to the Church Council, proposing Council actions as needed, and attending monthly Council meetings as requested
  • Responsible for administering church and ECC employees and budgets separately to maintain checks and balances
  • Perform other leadership duties as directed by the Senior Pastor

Human Resources

  • Remain current on HR best practices, employment law, market trends, salary data, and HR metrics
  • Manage full cycle of employee recruitment for the church and ECC, including drafting job descriptions and postings, resume review, interview coordination, conducting interviews, drafting offer letters, performing reference checks and pre-employment testing, computer setup, completing onboarding paperwork, and conducting initial orientations and follow-up check-ins
  • Advise the Senior Pastor, the church’s Personnel Committee, and church leadership on employee goal setting, workforce and compensation planning, and salary benchmarking
  • Serve as an active member of the Personnel Committee
  • Maintain and manage personnel files, HR records, and documentation in compliance with legal requirements
  • Prepare, manage, and update the church’s and ECC’s HR policies and employee handbooks
  • Be primary contact for employee questions about HR policies, payroll, PTO, benefits, and other employment issues, and mediate employee disputes, conduct investigations, and manage documentation and resolution processes
  • Work with ADP to maintain employee absence, vacation, and leave records. Administer and track employee FMLA and other leaves, accommodation requests, workers’ compensation and unemployment claims, and OSHA reporting
  • Manage initial benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and qualifying life events, and work with the church’s employee-benefits provider (Concordia) to oversee the Concordia Plan’s employee benefits. Work with the Personnel Committee on employee-benefits matters as outlined in the church bylaws
  • Be a member of Call Committees to call church workers and be primarily responsible for completing required paperwork for calling church workers
  • Perform other human-resources functions as directed by Senior Pastor

Operations/Facilities

  • Review overall operations and recommend changes to the Church Council, Personnel Committee, or appropriate MAT
  • Support capital campaign drives, fundraising projects, building improvements, and renovation projects, as needed
  • Be responsible for oversight of facilities, including overall condition and appearance of the building and property, in coordination with other employees
  • Collaborate with Ministry Action Teams (MATs) (e.g., Facilities, Communications, IT/Digital Marketing/Storytelling, Safety & Security, and Endowment Fund MATs) on projects

Financial, Administrative and Multimedia Supervision

  • Supervise financial administration of the church and ECC. Ensure that all church and ECC financial matters and decisions comply with church’s constitution, bylaws, policies of Church Council, and applicable laws
  • Supervise and prepare with other employees the church’s and ECC’s annual budgets
  • Supervise preparation of monthly financial reporting to Church Council
  • Coordinate with other employees and participate in annual financial reviews and outside audits
  • Supervise the church’s administrative functions, including recruiting volunteers publishing a monthly newsletter, etc.
  • Supervise the church’s multimedia functions, including digital outreach and streaming services, etc.
  • Perform other supervisory duties as directed by Senior Pastor

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-year degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations, or similar degree
  • 4+ years’ experience in leading/overseeing business operations, with strong emphasis on human resources experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and discretion
  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are comfortable with, and willing to work to promote, the church’s mission, core values, and statement of faith as well as the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s beliefs and teachings
  • Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Ability to sit for long periods of time, as well as move freely about the church and ECC. Ability to travel around Minneapolis/St. Paul MSA to develop relationships with other congregations and organizations

Preferred

  • Experience supervising accounting practices and financial reporting (budgeting, forecasting, reporting)
  • 3+ years’ experience managing multiple direct reports
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
