Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Pastor of Kids & Students leads, develops, and oversees all discipleship pathways, ministry programming, and outreach for children and students from birth through 12th grade. This role is designed for a licensed and/or ordained minister who can champion family discipleship, recruit and equip thriving volunteer teams, and build engaging environments where young people encounter Christ, grow in community, and impact the world.

This is not a task-only oversight role; it requires pastoral leadership, biblical preaching/teaching, strategic execution, relational investment, and team building.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the spiritual development of kids (Nursery–5th Grade) and students (6th–12th Grade) in alignment with the broader mission, vision, and core values of Rockwall Friendship Baptist Church.
  • Design and implement a seamless, gospel-centered discipleship pathway guiding children from early childhood through high school graduation.
  • Set annual ministry goals, key milestones, and comprehensive event calendars across both Kids and Student Ministries.
  • Communications: Oversee internal and external communications, ensuring clear and consistent messaging to church members, ministry partners, and the community.
  • Executive Team Collaboration: Serve on the executive team.
  • Direct Reports Management: Students Director

Weekly Programming, Preaching & Environments

  • Oversee and deliver dynamic, age-appropriate Sunday morning experiences for Kids Ministry and vibrant weekly services/gatherings for Kids & Student Ministry.
  • Faithfully teach and preach God's Word, communicating biblical doctrine clearly and relevantly to next-generation audiences.
  • Select, contextualize, and implement biblically faithful, gospel-centered curriculum across all age brackets.
  • Plan and execute in collaboration with Special Events team on seasonal initiatives, including Vacation Bible School (VBS), summer camps, student retreats, mission trips, and community outreach events.

Volunteer Recruitment & Leadership Development

  • Actively recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and shepherd volunteer leaders, small group facilitators, and classroom teachers.
  • Maintain rigorous child-safety and security standards, ensuring complete compliance with background checks, Ministry Safe/protection policies, and secure check-in/check-out systems.
  • Cultivate a healthy, encouraging ministry team culture focused on spiritual growth and mutual care.

Parent Partnership & Pastoral Care

  • Actively resource and partner with parents, providing tools, curriculum alignment, and coaching for discipleship in the home.
  • Provide pastoral care, biblical counsel, and crisis support to children, students, and their families.
  • Participate in general pastoral duties and staff collaboration as assigned by senior leadership (e.g., administering ordinances such as baptism and the Lord's Supper, hospital visitation, and pulpit supply/platform support).

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Ecclesiastical Credentials: Licensed and/or Ordained to the Gospel Ministry in the Baptist tradition.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biblical studies, Christian Ministry, Youth Ministry, or related theological field (Master’s / Seminary degree preferred).
  • Experience: 3+ years of demonstrated leadership and preaching/teaching experience in Kids, Student, or NextGen ministries in a local church setting.
  • Theological Alignment: Clear doctrinal alignment with the Baptist Faith and Message (BF&M 2000) and the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC), paired with full commitment to the mission, core values, and ministry objectives of Rockwall Friendship Baptist Church, while demonstrating biblical character and pastoral qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9).
  • Leadership & Equipping: Proven track record of recruiting, equipping, and retaining volunteer teams.
  • Communication: Strong written, verbal, and pulpit/platform communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: High emotional intelligence, collaborative spirit, and disciplined project execution.
  • Spiritual & Professional Growth: Maintain a dedicated rhythm of personal spiritual disciplines while actively pursuing ongoing theological study, leadership training, and professional ministry development.
  • Spiritual Formation & Developmental Alignment: Design and implement age-appropriate discipleship environments and teaching strategies that align with key stages of child, adolescent, and faith development—guiding children and students from foundational biblical awareness into deep, mature spiritual formation.
