Family Pastor

JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

The Family Pastor works well with people of different ages and backgrounds as he ministers to both children and adults and leads teams of volunteers. He leads our church’s efforts to minister to families and children both in our church and in the broader community under the direction of the Senior Pastor. This role is intended to be 65% children’s ministry and 35% adult ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Participate in general pastoral shepherding duties as needed. Including but not limited to preaching, counseling, weddings, funerals, and visitations.
  • Regularly share the gospel in our community and invite people to church.
  • Regularly disciple others to grow in their walk with Jesus.
  • Regularly identify, recruit, equip, shepherd, and deploy volunteers.
  • Develop and lead ministry leadership teams.
  • Develop an annual ministry budget and be able to work within that budget.
  • Attend church staff meetings and retreats.
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends and best practices within ministries of comparable size.
  • Partner with school faculty to reach and minister to the unchurched families and students in our local schools.
  • Work with the Bethel Facilities Team to manage the church’s property.
  • Work with the Bethel Safety Team to implement safety plans.
  • Perform any additional job responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

CHILDREN

  • Oversee and engage in all programming for the church’s children ministry which includes ages birth through 5th grade.
  • Recruit and lead the Children’s Leadership Team, including directors for Awana, Ignite, and Vacation Bible School (VBS).
  • Establish and maintain children’s ministry safety policies and procedures that protect children in our church’s care.
  • Plan and oversee special events related to children and families including VBS, fall festivals, etc.
  • Collaborate with other Bethel Church leaders to define a vision for the children’s ministry that contributes to the church’s overall vision. Develop a ministry plan to achieve that vision.
  • Manage all children’s ministry volunteers.
  • Identify and execute ministry and missions opportunities for children and families.
  • Explore emerging technologies that help engage more volunteers in the ministry of the church.
  • Be responsible for the children’s budget for the Children’s Leadership Team.
  • Approve all curriculum used by the children’s ministry and ensure it is consistent with the church’s doctrinal commitments.

ADULT MINISTRIES

  • Recruit and lead the Adult Ministry Leadership Team, including directors for groups, men’s ministries, women’s ministries, and marriage ministries.
  • Oversee adult ministry discipleship and connection groups, including young adults and senior adults.
  • Collaborate with other Bethel Church leaders to define a vision for the adult ministry that contributes to the church’s overall vision. Develop a ministry plan to achieve that vision.
  • Provide ongoing opportunities to strengthen families and marriages by providing spiritual gatherings, seminars, date night events, and family fun events throughout the year.
  • Oversee men’s and women’s ministry events.
  • Oversee marriage and parenting ministries and events.
  • Oversee adult ministries curriculum content approval process.
  • Oversee congregational care and visitation in conjunction with Deacons, Deaconess, and the Senior Pastor.

REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL

  • Have a growing Christian faith and character.
  • Have a lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9).
  • Have a firm sense of calling to pastoral ministry.
  • Have a commitment to the mission of the church and Bethel’s statement of faith.
  • Have an understanding of and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church.
  • Able to teach.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing and leading teams of varying ethnicities, socio-economic levels, and generations.
  • Able to pass a background check.

SPECIFIC

  • Master of Divinity degree preferred, or a Bachelor’s degree in education or Christian ministry.
  • Prior experience in a full-time ministry position with families and children in a church setting.
  • A desire to teach and mentor children and adults in biblical truth.
