Associate Pastor – FBC Newton

First Baptist Church of Newton is prayerfully seeking a vibrant, Christ-centered Associate Pastor to join us in God’s work of knowing Him, showing His Gospel, and growing His Kingdom. This is not simply a position—it is an invitation into a calling, a community, and a shared vision for generations.

Who We’re Looking For

We are prayerfully seeking a pastor who:

• Loves Jesus deeply and lives a life that reflects that love
• Is passionate about helping others come to know and follow Christ
• Respects and honors the doctrine, heritage, and customs of the local church
• Desires to grow as a pastor, leader, spouse, and servant
• Is just as comfortable in a hospital room or living room as behind a pulpit

This role is ideal for a pastor who wants to plant roots, grow alongside a Lead Pastor, and invest in a church family that will walk with him for the long haul.

The Role

The Associate Pastor serves alongside the Lead Pastor to help shepherd the congregation, equip believers, and strengthen the ministry of the church. This position plays a key role in teaching, discipleship, pastoral care, and leadership, always with the goal of glorifying Christ and advancing His Kingdom.

Responsibilities include:

• Participating in worship services, preaching, and church ordinances
• Preaching from the pulpit at least five times per year
• Assisting with weddings, funerals, and special services
• Helping develop and implement discipleship efforts for all ages
• Building a culture where spiritual growth is encouraged and celebrated

Pastoral Care & Community Life

The Associate Pastor will:

• Provide visitation, prayer, and pastoral counseling
• Build meaningful relationships throughout the church and community
• Be visible, approachable, and present in the life of the congregation
• Encourage unity, compassion, and mutual care

Leadership & Teamwork

This pastor will:

• Serve joyfully alongside church staff and leadership
• Participate in church board and ministry meetings
• Equip and support volunteers and ministry leaders
• Communicate faithfully with the Lead Pastor
• Serve with flexibility and a servant’s heart

Areas of Ministry

Based on gifting and calling, this role may focus in areas such as:

• Discipleship
• Worship
• Youth and student ministry
• Outreach and community engagement

Education & Experience

• Formal ministry education is strongly valued
• Ministry and real-world life experience are both considered assets
• References and background checks will be required
