Associate Pastor Job Description
Job Overview
Qualifications: A theological degree or equivalency from a recognized theological/pastoral training institution and minimum three years church staff experience.
- Must be spiritually mature
- Must be respectable with exemplary conduct
- Must be able to preach and teach sound doctrine
- Must be able to relate to and care for persons of different races/cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be able to accept constructive criticism
- Must be able to recognize and respect the culture of the Congregation
- Must be willing to discuss all innovations with the Pastors and Elders before taking further steps
General Responsibilities: The Associate Pastor will serve under the Lead Teaching Pastor to:
- Provide supportive leadership in the area of preaching.
- Provide pastoral care, leadership development, and assist with overseeing the overall spiritual health for the congregation.
- Provide oversight and leadership of the Middle and High School Youth Ministries
Job Description
Specific Responsibilities
Pastoral
- Serves as preaching associate to the Pastor, preaching on Sunday on such other occasion as required by the Lead Teaching Pastor;
- Assists in discipleship development;
- Assists in providing ministry counseling to the church membership and members of the community.
- Serves as a Marriage Officer for the congregation alongside other staff;
- Provides pastoral care to the congregation, including home and hospital visits, funerals, and other opportunities for care.
- Prays with church members and guests in times of need and as a part of the ongoing prayer efforts of the congregation.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Elders.
Youth Ministry
- Mentoring and discipling the Youth Pastor
- Develop a youth ministry culture where youth can easily connect and grow in their relationship with God and each other.
- Develop and mentor a team of youth leaders and volunteers from differing ages.
- Encourage and come alongside parents in the process of discipling their youth.
- Communicate plans with the staff, youth, and parents in a responsible, clear, and timely manner using resources available (Attend all staff meetings, website, email, bulletin, newsletter, etc.).
- Be accessible and personable to offer care and counseling to youth.
- Plan a yearly mission trip for high school and a local mission activity for middle school students.
- Plan high school and middle school retreats
Administrative
- Supports the Lead Teaching Pastor and Elders in the accomplishment of the church’s mission through ministry effectiveness, evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning and overall direction of congregation;
- Works in tandem with the Pastors and Elders in the annual strategic planning process including evaluation of ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values; development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of goals;
