Position Summary: The Worship Pastor provides spiritual and creative leadership for the worship ministry across all locations of The Block Church. This role is responsible for developing worship leaders and teams, cultivating a healthy worship culture, and contributing to the creative vision and growth of The Block Worship (TBW) brand. The Worship Pastor leads with a strong emphasis on discipleship, excellence, and building sustainable worship teams that support the mission and values of the church.This role includes pastoral care, leadership development, and the execution of worship experiences, while also contributing to songwriting, content creation, and the broader influence of The Block Worship. The Worship Pastor collaborates closely with the Executive Pastor of Worship Arts and other departments to ensure alignment in vision, culture, and execution. This position requires a balance of pastoral leadership, musical excellence, administrative oversight, and creative innovation. Can thrive working autonomously with minimal direction while also valuing input and specific guidance from supervisors when it is offered - Consistently looks for ways to improve, is never satisfied with the status quo and is willing to reject good for great - This individual’s family enjoys and participates in the life of the church and sees work and personal life as meaningfully connected - Is a learner and naturally inquisitive and is willing to gain wisdom and best practices from others with a teachable and humble spirit - Lives a godly life with character above reproach and demonstrates a Spirit filled relationship with the Lord - Lives as an example others would want to follow and demonstrates health and stability personally, spiritually, physically, financially, and relationally - Is an undeniable hard worker who gets the job done and steps in to help rather than standing by - Lives out and protects the culture and values of The Block Church Key Responsibilities Leadership & Pastoral Care - Provide pastoral oversight of the worship community, including coordinators and team members, with a focus on discipleship, spiritual growth, and care - Conduct regular check-ins with team members regarding spiritual health and well-being - Support coordinators in navigating conflicts, pastoral conversations, and care situations - Foster a strong, healthy team culture aligned with the mission and values of The Block Church - Work closely with Location Pastors for development, recruiting, communication around leaders, discipline issues, and feedback/support Team Development & Oversight - Lead and develop the Assistant Worship Director through consistent weekly one-on-one meetings, providing coaching, feedback, and leadership support - Recruit, train, and develop worship team members and leaders - Establish and oversee recurring audition opportunities throughout the year to recruit and onboard vocalists and instrumentalists - Ensure worship teams are fully staffed across all locations without reliance on central support or paid musicians - Ensure each location coordinator plans and executes quarterly team gatherings at their respective location - Assist in planning and executing community-wide worship gatherings (2 per year) Worship Planning & Execution - Lead worship regularly at broadcast location and other locations as needed - Oversee and ensure the effectiveness of weekly rehearsals (including Thursday night broadcast rehearsals) - Determine song selection and implementation of new music - Lead Worship Department meetings with location coordinators (every other month) - Partner with other departments to support creative elements for services and special events - Attend bi-weekly creative meeting with the Worship Arts Department Creative & Brand Development (TBW) - Participate in writing sessions, recording projects, and potential travel related to TBW - Engage in networking and digital strategies to build and expand the TBW brand, leveraging its existing social media presence (2,500+ followers) to increase reach and impact across platforms - Work toward distribution opportunities and expanding influence beyond Philadelphia - Track and contribute to growth metrics including streaming, YouTube, and social media engagement Personal & Organizational Development - Oversee and manage the annual TBW budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources aligned with ministry goals and strategic priorities - Commit to ongoing personal leadership and musical development - Develop an understanding of the business and operational side of The Block Worship Qualifications - Education & Experience - High school diploma or GED required - Proven experience in worship leadership, team development, and ministry leadership - Strong musical ability (vocals and/or instrumentation) with experience leading worship in a live setting - Experience in songwriting, recording, or creative production preferred not mandatory - Ability to use Planning Center Online, Prime, MacOS, iOS, Google Docs, and GroupMe - History of successfully managing a budget Certifications (Preferred but Not Required) - Formal ministry training or worship leadership certification - Music production, recording, or songwriting certifications/experience Core Competencies - Spiritual maturity and strong pastoral leadership - Effective communication and interpersonal skills - Team building, coaching, and leadership development - Creative vision and innovation - Organizational and administrative skills - Conflict resolution and emotional intelligence - Ability to lead both strategically and hands-on - Adaptability in a fast-paced, multi-site church environment Physical Requirements - Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals and services - Ability to lift and move musical equipment as needed - Availability to work evenings and weekends as required for services and events Compensation: Compensation range and pay are based on experience, certifications, and demonstrated skill level. Work Schedule:This position requires in-office presence three days per week (Monday–Wednesday), in addition to Thursday evening rehearsals and participation in special events, including Sunday services, First Wednesday, and any additional church events.
