Kids Ministries Director/Pastor
Riverwood’s mission is to know Jesus, be known, and make Him known. Kids aren’t the future
of the church; they are the church right now. With this in mind, this important role oversees all
that goes into equipping parents to show and teach Jesus (Know Jesus), what
community-based discipleship looks like in a kid’s life (Be Known), and how to make Jesus
known through their words and actions (Make Him Known). The kids will have opportunities to
discover who they are in Jesus, their part in the bigger story, and that their lives have a purpose,
all in a fun, community-based environment. This non-exempt, 40-hours-a-week position will report
directly to the Pastor of Discipleship. The person in this role is responsible for, but not limited to:
Staff
Provide direct leadership of the Kids Ministry staff team. This includes, but is not limited
to:
- Setting and carrying out the vision for the staff team (Kids Ministry Volunteer
- Coordinator, Kids Ministry Curriculum Coordinator, Nursery Coordinator, Kids
- Ministry Administrative Assistant, Helping Hands Coordinator, and Child Care Workers)
- Regular meetings with the staff team to discuss the direction and needs of the
- ministry
- Establish and communicate expectations and provide accountability and support
- to carry out the vision
Kids
Provide vision and direct leadership of the Kids Ministries. This includes, but is not
limited to:
- A clear vision that reflects ministry through the mission of knowing Jesus, being
- known, and making Him known
- Ongoing and direct leadership of the spiritual development of kids
- Ongoing events (including Camp Riverwood) that promote community and
- curiosity in Jesus through a fun environment
- Regularly encourage kids and families to attend Sunday service
- Regularly monitor the effectiveness of the Kids Ministries, identify deficiencies,
- and develop new ways of “doing” ministry
Leaders
Provide indirect leadership of Kids Ministry Volunteers, equipping them well in the
service of ministry. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Clear, realistic expectations and accountability
- Ongoing recruiting, training, communication, and appreciation that promotes a
- healthy team environment
- A partnership in the discipleship of kids with Kids Ministry Staff and Volunteers
- that reflects love and unity, and stewards their gifts
Parents
Assist parents in the discipleship of their kids. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Clear, ongoing communication about the Kids Ministries and their purpose
- Be available to meet, discuss, and assist parents with their kids
- Provide formal meetings that promote community amongst parents, a space to
- ask questions, and equip parents in the discipleship of their kids
Staff Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings and staff prayer gatherings as outlined by the Executive Pastor
- and Lead Pastor
- Be present at all all-church events as outlined by the Executive Pastor and Lead Pastor
- Communicate and work with other Riverwood staff members as needed for both the
- overall effectiveness of personal responsibilities and the overall Riverwood ministry and
- facility needs
- Oversee and direct the Kids Ministry staff team
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor of Discipleship, the Executive Pastor,
- and the Lead Pastor
