PRINCIPLE FUNCTION
The Pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to devote himself to
prayer, to preach the biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, to provide
administrative leadership in all areas of church life and to act as the chief administrator of the
church.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Pastor must be a born-again Christian and must demonstrate through testimony the
divine call of God. A Master of Divinity or its equivalent from an accredited seminary with five
(5) years of pastoral experience is preferred. Moreover, the pastor must possess the ability,
education, and experience to assume and carry out the duties and responsibilities described
herein.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the preaching ministry of the church
• Lead ministry staff in planning and conducting the worship services
• Be a strong leader, capable of inspiring, encouraging and motivating staff and church
members to use their time, talents and spiritual gifts in serving the Lord
• Lead by example while preserving the principle of congregational governance
• Conduct worship services and provide encouragement and support to church members
during times of special needs, while maintaining confidentiality
• Participate and provide leadership in personal evangelism and congregational
outreach/visitation programs, sharing the gospel with those inside and outside of the church
• Participate and provide leadership for programs of discipleship to foster spiritual maturity in
all members
• Encourage and guide deacons to meet the pastoral ministries of the church
• Serve as chief administrator of the paid church staff
• Attend and supervise weekly staff meetings
• Lead the staff in developing their ministry goals and hold them accountable for good work
ethic, effectiveness and efficiency
• Engage the congregation regarding missions through the support and development of
missions programs
• Act as moderator of church business meetings
• Oversee and promote financial accountability of the church
• Assist the Budget/Finance Committee in coordination and development of the church
budget
• Coordinate and provide administrative leadership to assigned committees and ministry
organizations
• Represent the church in civic matters
• Perform weekday and funeral/memorial services as requested and desired, in accordance
with church bylaws
• Perform any other responsibilities/duties not listed but included in Article VI, Section 7.1 of
the church bylaws
