Position Status: Full Time: 40+ hours a week
Purpose: This position is charged with preaching and teaching the Word of God, administering sacraments, leading in ministry to all members of this faith community, and faithfully giving himself to pastoral work.
Job Skills and Requirements:
- Meet the requirements of 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9 and 1 Peter 5:1-4. (Qualifications for character, giftedness, and call set forth in the Holy Scriptures.)
- Be a person of mature, growing Christian Faith and character, reflecting Biblical values and spiritual leadership.
- Possess the relational spiritual gifts that would be necessary to minister to people with spiritual and physical needs.
- Be comfortable working in one-on-one settings, in small groups, and in large group settings.
- Comfortable and gifted speaker with strong communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work together with the church staff, Leadership Team, and Ministry Teams of ECC Whitehall
- Keep your life in harmony with the Word of God, striving in word and deed to be a worthy example of Christian living.
Job Responsibilities and Required Duties:
Preaching and Teaching
- Preach and teach the Word of God as revealed in the Old and New Testaments.
- Administer the Sacraments, Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, according to the practice of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
- Lead with authenticity in accord with the Constitution and Bylaws of this congregation.
- Plan and prepare sermons throughout the year, as the principal teacher for ECC, leveraging the Holy Spirit as inspiration rather than AI.
- Organize, vet, and schedule additional teachers as part of pulpit-supply so that godly and wise teaching is provided to the congregation even in your absence.
Discipleship
- Give pastoral leadership to our congregation’s Leadership Team, ministry teams, and activities.
Outreach
- Participate with outreach to the people throughout the White Lake area.
Pastoral Care
- Lead, supervise, encourage, and care for the staff of the church.
- Attend Leadership Meetings, in order to be a consensus builder and communicator with both teams.
- Share the heart of the staff with the Leadership Team, while also sharing the heart of the Leadership Team with the Staff.
- Lead and direct the visioning and goal setting of the church.
- Counsel those within the congregation as needed.
- Perform marriages and funerals. The Senior Pastor will have the right to grant or refuse the ceremony of marriage or funerals within the church according to biblical reasons.
- Reach out to partners, attenders, and seekers outside of Sunday morning with pastoral care.
- Assist the Associate Pastor with visitations of shut-ins and sick as needed to ensure that the ministry is fully supported.
Other
- The pastor shall be of virtue to his call, be a member of the church, and an ex-officio member of the Leadership Team and Ministry Teams.
- The pastor shall be involved with each ministry at an appropriate level to be able to both contribute to and assess each ministry’s effectiveness and needs.
- Oversee the administration of official church records/ministerial acts as necessary.
- Lead and facilitate weekly staff meetings.
- Visit all Life Groups periodically as time permits in conjunction with the Associate Pastor.
- Be an active Life Group Member
- Be comfortable engaging and fellowshipping with the ECC Body before and after all services.
- The Senior Pastor shall work closely with the Office Administrator and Lead Team Chair to make sure his work schedule, appointments, and vacations are visible within an online calendar so that time accountability is above-reproach and so that any concern from a congregant can quickly be dismissed with confidence.
- The Senior Pastor shall hold his staff to the same standard so that any concern from a congregant can quickly be dismissed with confidence as he will have full visibility to and awareness of his staff’s church-related activities.
Evaluation and Compensation:
- The Senior Pastor receives an annual performance review by the Leadership Team. Compensation is reviewed annually by the Leadership Team.
- The Senior Pastor shall prepare annual performance reviews with each staff member, encouraging each staff member to set goals at the outset of the year.
- The Senior Pastor shall schedule follow-up sessions with staff throughout the year on those goals, ensuring each staff member is encouraged and challenged to grow spiritually and professionally.
- The Senior Pastor shall provide the Leadership Team with his staff’s signed annual performance reviews by November 1 of each year and shall recommend merit increases based upon their individual performance.
