Job Purpose:
The Children’s Minister is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Children’s Ministry at
East Columbus Christian Church, including but not limited to:
• Sourcing the best Biblically accurate curriculum to enhance children’s spiritual growth,
considering all learning styles while ensuring activities are fun and inviting for all
children’s ministries
• Planning, organizing, and directing activities that promote spiritual growth and community
for children during worship services, weekly gatherings,Vacation Bible School, or other
special events
• Engaging and confirming appropriate volunteers for nursery, beginner’s church, children’s
church, and additional events
• Planning, organizing, directing, or supporting outreach programs for children and their
families including but not limited to: Vacation Bible School, Fall Family Fest, Parent’s
Night Out, summer camp, retreats, etc.
• Building strong relationships with children and their families
• Collaborating with the Youth Minister to establish a strong connection between the
children’s and student ministries, especially for children that are about to move up to the
next group
• Attending and participating in staff meetings
Duties and Responsibilities:
• This is a full time position that requires dedicated in person presence
• Researching, collecting, preparing, and distributing age appropriate curriculum and
materials for beginner church volunteers in a timely and user-friendly format that is in
line with church vision, mission and values
• Engaging and scheduling volunteers for nursery through beginner church classes during
worship services
• Collaborating with the Senior Minister and Elders to prepare Children’s Ministry
curriculum that is in line with church vision, mission and values
• Overseeing, teaching, and guiding all children’s teachings
• Ensuring all environments, including nursery, classrooms, and fellowship hall are safe,
tidy, inviting for families, and equipped for volunteers
• Communicating, training, encouraging, and shepherding all current volunteers, including
sending Birthday, Get Well, and Sympathy Cards, and visiting in the hospital
• Recruiting, background checking, training, and acclimating new volunteers
• Fostering a community among volunteers to achieve a team environment
• Performing other duties as requested
Qualifications:
• A mature Christian
• Formal education should include a high school diploma; a college degree in children’s
ministry is a plus. Experience can substitute for formal education.
• Must be good with collaborating with people of all ages, a good listener, and friendly
• Problem solver and able to work independently
• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously
• Should be able to participate in overnight events
• Family-oriented
• Creative

Development Requirements:
• Willingness to learn and seek out continued spiritual growth and development
opportunities within the children’s ministry
• Networking with similar Christian Churches within the area
• Attend conferences or seminars related to children’s ministry as appropriate, in addition
to those attended with children for their development
