Job Description for Pastor role
PURPOSE
DoXa Church exists as a Christ-centered community committed to dynamic worship, Bible-based teaching, fellowship and spreading of the gospel throughout NYC. We are a small, relational community of mostly second generation Asian-Americans, establishing a church in Manhattan. The Pastor will lead among us to reach the nations and reflect the diversity of God’s people.
QUALIFICATIONS
-A Master of Divinity degree or equivalent in seminary training is preferred.
-Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)
-Evidence of a committed, mature, and deepening relationship with Jesus Christ.
-Will reflect the biblical qualifications for overseer in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 as well as a spirit of humility and servanthood called for in Matthew 20:25- 28 and 1 Peter 5:1-4.
-Be or become an ordained minister
-Be a strong expositional, gospel-centered preacher with a background in leadership training, discipleship and evangelism.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
-High relational interpersonal skills in order to compassionately minister to cross-cultural and multi-ethnic demographics within the urban setting
-Strong leadership skills including the ability to develop and articulate a mission/vision, build support, and engage the church community in fulfilling its purpose.
-A creative, entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to envision and revitalize, spearheading change as needed.
-Ability to train and equip lay elders and deacons within the church to implement that vision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pastor will provide active guidance and leadership in the following areas:
Visionary: Lead the church among the Elder Team by casting the vision for ministry and motivating others to fulfill the vision. Continually seek God’s direction for engaging and cultivating a more diverse community that reflects God’s Kingdom.
Leadership: Oversee and support the staff, church leaders and deacons as they lead various ministries and functions on a regular basis. Guide staff in goal setting, leadership development, and spiritual direction. Work alongside the Elder Team in implementing church structure in accordance with the constitution and bylaws. Lead the congregation with a servant heart and respect. Encourage, empower, and develop future church leaders.
Worship: Plan meaningful personal and corporate worship experiences that bring people into the presence of an awesome and Holy God. Provide Gospel-centered and expository teaching and preaching based on Scripture. Coordinate with the worship leader, staff, and volunteers for Sunday services and special events. Celebrate by performing rites of passage, such as child dedications, baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
Prayer: Pray diligently for and with the church community and staff. Seek God’s direction in identifying and supporting those who need prayer.
Shepherding: Provide guidance and assistance to individuals in the church community. Exemplify compassion and love to all people and give counsel as needed. Guide leaders and others in the church to give care to those in need. It is also understood that the Pastor is not the sole member care provider and may refer individuals to church leaders, other church members, or professional resources.
