Job Title: Director of Discipleship Report To: SPR Committee and Senior Pastor General Responsibilities: Full-Time, Sunday -Thursday Primary Responsibilities: The Director of Discipleship oversees the development and execution of Dayspring’s discipleship pathway to ensure all visitors, new members and regular attendees have ample opportunity to grow in their faith, connect with one another and love others well. The Director of Discipleship does this by coordinating and leading Sunday morning volunteers, implementing and maintaining a small group ministry as an essential avenue for transformational discipleship and providing compassion and guidance for the congregational needs of the church. Additionally, the Director of Discipleship empowers the members of the congregation to serve in our community through Dayspring’s community partners. General Information: Full-time, Sunday-Thursday work week. Global Methodist Church’s Expectations: ¶505 of the Book of Doctrine and Discipline: - Have a personal faith in Jesus Christ and be committed to Christ as Savior and Lord. - Nurture and cultivate spiritual disciplines and patterns of holiness consistent with the General Rules, including responsible self-control by exhibiting personal habits that are conducive to bodily health, mental and emotional maturity, integrity in all relationships, fidelity in a Christian marriage between one man and one woman, chastity in singleness, social responsibility, and the knowledge and love of God. - Have a call by God and the people of God to devote themselves to the work of ministry. - Be able to effectively communicate the Christian faith. - Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and communication. - Give evidence of God’s gifts for ordained ministry and promise of future usefulness in the mission of the church. - Accept the authority of Scripture; be competent in the disciplines of Scripture, theology, church history and polity; possess the skills essential for the practice of ministry, and lead in making disciples of Jesus Christ. - Be accountable to the church, accept its doctrinal standards, discipline, and authority, accept the supervision of those appointed to the ministry of oversight, and live in covenant with its ordained ministers. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Sunday Morning - Implement a method to count churchwide attendance. Check in with individuals who have not been present in 3 weeks. - Lead designated Sunday morning volunteer teams, including hospitality, greeters and ushers. This includes recruiting, training and scheduling and supporting the volunteers on these teams. - Oversee Sunday morning hospitality tasks - Plan connection and appreciation opportunities for Sunday morning volunteer teams Small Groups - Identify needs for small groups by considering the various ages, demographics and stages of life of those who attend Dayspring - Identify, recruit and train small group leaders and facilitators - Encourage, empower, equip, and shepherd current and potential small group leaders. - Responsible for curating, selecting, and implementing small group curriculum while designing training that empowers small group leaders Discipleship Pathway - Create and implement the process a person can take to become an active, involved member of Dayspring. This involves looking at the entire process of getting connected into the life of the church and cultivating a community of connection and disciple-making - Design and oversee pre-membership class/process. - Establish New Member initiation, orientation, and celebrations. - Recruit for and support The Vine discipleship program. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree – communications, administration, theology, or business preferred. - Master’s degree preferred - A Master’s of Divinity degree or equivalent from an accredited, 3-year seminary program. - Experience and/or training in Pastoral Ministry - Bear fruit in pursuit of holiness and godly leadership, outlined in ¶505 of the Global Methodist Book of Doctrines and Discipline. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Willingness to learn and align with the Mission, Values and Strategies of Dayspring. - A committed Christian and active participant in the life of Dayspring. - A team player who works collaboratively with other staff to accomplish tasks - Competent with personal computer operation and software (i.e., Mac OS, Planning Center). - Significant experience recruiting, coordinating and scheduling volunteers - Effective communicator (verbal and written) who is able to quickly establish positive working relationships with volunteers and colleagues to deliver and support Dayspring’s mission and values. - Flexible and creative problem solver - Proactive self-starter who is able to adjust to changing organizational needs.
