Position Summary
The Associate Pastor of Ministries provides spiritual leadership, oversight, and coordination of the church’s core ministries in alignment with the mission, vision, and doctrinal convictions of the church. This pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor to shepherd the congregation, equip ministry leaders, and ensure that all ministries are biblically faithful, well-organized, and focused on making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Primary Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership & Pastoral Care
- Model a Christ-centered life marked by humility, integrity, and spiritual maturity.
- Share in preaching, teaching, and leading corporate worship gatherings as assigned.
- Provide pastoral care, counseling, prayer, and support to individuals and families.
- Participate in weddings, funerals, hospital visits, and other pastoral duties as needed.
Ministry Oversight & Development
- Oversee and coordinate key church ministries (e.g., children, students, small groups, discipleship, outreach, men’s/women’s ministries), depending on gifting and church needs.
- Recruit, train, disciple, and encourage ministry leaders and volunteers.
- Develop ministry structures, goals, and strategies that align with the church’s mission.
- Ensure ministries are biblically grounded, well-communicated, and effectively executed.
Discipleship & Equipping
- Help cultivate a culture of discipleship within the church.
- Teach classes, lead small groups, and equip believers for ministry and service.
- Encourage spiritual growth through Scripture, prayer, and community.
Administration & Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, ministry leaders, and support staff.
- Assist in ministry planning, budgeting, and evaluation.
- Participate in staff meetings, leadership development, and strategic planning.
- Support the Senior Pastor in carrying out the overall vision and direction of the church.
Qualifications
Spiritual & Character Qualifications
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a calling to pastoral ministry.
- Meets the biblical qualifications for an elder/pastor (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9).
- Agreement with and commitment to the church’s statement of faith and doctrine.
- A servant-hearted leader with strong relational and communication skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Previous ministry experience in a church or ministry setting preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and develop ministries and volunteers.
- Ordination is not required, but that the applicant should be open to it.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong teaching and communication skills.
- Ability to lead teams, manage multiple responsibilities, and work collaboratively.
- Pastoral sensitivity and wisdom in caring for people.
- Administrative competence and organizational skills.
