Ministry Role The Kids’ City Director provides point leadership for Kids’ City large-group environments, ensuring that children have a positive, meaningful experience at COMMUNITY’s Naperville location across all Kids’ City gatherings. This role oversees a defined portion of Kids’ City programming and may help lead new or expanded service environments as the ministry grows. The Kids’ City Director partners with families to help raise Christ followers who are growing in their connection with God, the Church, and the World, with an emphasis on authentic, age-appropriate worship. This pastoral role is commissioned by COMMUNITY's Leadership Commission (aka the elders or Board of Directors). The person fulfilling this role is considered to be a religious leader by the church and qualifies under the "ministerial exception" of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The duties of this role include administering sacraments and conducting religious worship. The person fulfilling this role has management responsibility overseeing coaches and leaders and overseeing a ministry budget within the church. Reporting Structure - The Kids’ City Director reports to the Naperville Executive Pastor for day-to-day leadership, coaching, and performance evaluation. - The Kids’ City Director submits to the leadership of the Naperville Community Pastor, and the Naperville Executive Pastor for campus-wide direction, vision, and ministry alignment. - The Kids’ City Director submits to COMMUNITY’s Lead Team for overall vision, philosophy of ministry, and cross-campus alignment. - The role maintains a dotted-line relationship with the Kids’ City Champion for collaboration and shared learning across locations. Work Hours This is a full time (40-hour) position with flexibility to work both in the office and at home, as responsibilities require. Qualifications / Skills - Proven leader who casts vision, builds trust, and mobilizes volunteers and teams. - Demonstrated ability to design and lead engaging worship and creative environments for children. - Ability to plan, lead, and oversee Kids’ City services, events, and connection opportunities for families, including adapting to new or expanded service times or environments as the ministry grows. - Strong coaching and development skills with adults, students, and kids; able to recruit, train, and empower leaders. - Experience developing and equipping Tech Arts and Performing Arts teams. - Strong organizational and execution skills with the ability to translate vision into repeatable systems. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Strong technical aptitude in audio, video, and lighting environments. - Meets leadership expectations outlined in the COMMUNITY Staff Handbook. Job Responsibilities Implement Vision & Strategy - Implement and advance Kids’ City’s vision for helping families find their way back to God through engaging, Christ-centered worship and creative environments. - Communicate vision and strategy clearly to Kids’ City Arts leaders and families. - Ensure kids are engaged and able to articulate the Bible story and main theme by the end of Kids’ City Celebration. - Lead Kids’ City Celebration environments that are fun, kid-friendly, and aligned with series themes whenever possible. Lead Ministry Leaders - Recruit, onboard, and empower volunteer leaders for Kids’ City Arts roles, including Worship Leaders, Worship Teams, Communicators, Producers, Tech Arts (sound, lighting, media), Green Room Hosts, and Greeters. - Utilize church-wide apprenticing tools to develop leaders and build leadership pipelines. - Meet regularly with Kids’ City Arts team leaders for planning, coaching, and leadership development. - Provide training and development opportunities for artists and creative volunteers. - Ensure all Arts team members receive clear, weekly communication and are scheduled several weeks in advance. - Build and implement systems to identify, develop, and support Team Leaders and Coaches as teams grow. - Plan occasional social gatherings to celebrate and appreciate volunteers. Ministry Growth & Future Development - Partner with Kids’ City and campus leadership to discern, shape, and lead new Kids’ City environments, service times, or ministry initiatives as the church grows. - Contribute ideas, insights, and leadership capacity that help inform the future direction and structure of Kids’ City programming. - Adapt leadership focus and ministry responsibilities over time in response to growth, family needs, and emerging opportunities. Oversee Kids’ City Arts Operations - Manage the Kids’ City Arts ministry budget (5211 Kids’ City Arts). - Maintain accurate records in Rock RMS and Planning Center Online, including ministry teams and schedules. - Ensure background checks and child safety training are current and compliant. - Oversee the Kids’ City large-group environment and manage supplies and technical needs. Family Ministry & Sunday Programming Support - Ensure Kids’ City Arts teams are fully staffed, prepared, and well-supported for weekly services. - Communicate vision, discipleship opportunities, and community-building priorities during Sunday huddles. - Assist in planning and staffing special family events and ministry resources. - Support Kids’ City programming across current and future service environments as the ministry grows. Lead & Support Kids’ City Special Events - Assist with Kids’ City Move-Up, 5th Grade Move-Up, and Kids’ City Experience. - Participate in campus-wide outreach and community engagement initiatives. Represent Kids’ City on the Naperville Team - Participate in all-location events and shared initiatives. - Meet weekly with the Kids’ City team to recap services and prepare for upcoming events. - Collaborate with the Naperville team to implement outreach, community engagement, and service strategies.
