Position Overview
The Lead Pastor will serve as the primary spiritual leader and undershepherd of the church under the headship of Jesus Christ. He is responsible for preaching and teaching the Word of God, providing visionary and biblical leadership, shepherding the congregation, equipping the saints for ministry, and leading the church in fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). The Lead Pastor works in partnership with the pastors/elders, deacons, church staff, and congregation to advance the gospel, nurture believers, and reach the community.
Qualifications
- Spiritual and Character: Able to articulate a calling from God to pastoral ministry. A clear testimony of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Must meet the biblical qualifications for a pastor/elder (as seen in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9).
- Doctrinal: Full agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, church covenant, and bylaws.
- Education: Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological training from an accredited seminary is preferred.
- Experience: Several years of pastoral or ministry experience (10+ years preferred), with demonstrated effectiveness in preaching, leadership, and shepherding. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Public Ministry of the Word: Plan and conduct worship services through expositional preaching as the normative means of proclaiming God’s truth, and lead in the observation of the ordinances.
- Private Ministry of the Word and Prayer: Provide pastoral care through biblical counseling, prayer, visitation, regular hospitality, and personal discipling relationships
- Shepherding: Walk with God’s people through all seasons of life and faith, offering encouragement, correction, and biblical perspective.
- Equip the Saints: Cultivate an every-member ministry mentality, encouraging and equipping the body for gospel service
- Evangelism: Commit to regularly sharing Christ with the lost
- Prayer: Commit to regularly praying for the church and the lost in the community
Compensation and Benefits
