Overview: Ashland Community Church is looking forward to a healthy transition to retirement for our current Lead Pastor. The current Lead Pastor plans to retire within one to four years. We are hoping to hire a Lead Pastor for his replacement or, if needed, we would hire an Associate Pastor working under his leadership until that individual is ready to assume the Lead Pastor role. If we find the right person for the Lead Pastor role, the current Lead Pastor would resign upon this hire. However, the current Lead Pastor is willing to stay on to help coach and mentor the Associate Pastor and they will assume more and more duties and responsibilities, ultimately taking on the title of Lead Pastor at the direction of the Elder Board. If we hire an Associate Pastor, the tasks assigned will be aligned with their skill set, whether working with NextGen, Small Groups, Digital Media, Technology, Marketing, etc.
The job description below is for the Lead Pastor. If an Associate Pastor is hired, they will work in partnership with the current Lead Pastor to ensure the following Duties and Responsibilities are fulfilled.
As this role transitions to the Lead Pastor Role, this position will work in harmony with the Elder Board and will oversee paid staff and volunteer staff, such as the volunteer coordinator, the event coordinator, and small group leaders. The Lead Pastor is an elder who works full time in leading the church to accomplish its mission and vision and is the primary person responsible for teaching/preaching God’s Word at our Worship Services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides Biblical and relevant preaching and teaching at Sunday services
- Provides vision and leadership for the ministries of the church
- Provides oversight and support for the ACC staff & volunteers
- Oversees the implementation and execution of church events, programs, and activities that engage the community and create opportunities for serving and ministering to others
- Demonstrates hospitality, generosity, and approachability to those in the ACC family and the community
- Manages content creation for sermon series, which then distributes to the Web Admin & Production team
- Meets quarterly with small group leaders, monthly with volunteer and event coordinators, and twice per month with the youth leader to provide clear communication and accountability.
- Teaches baptism classes and makes all arrangements for baptisms to take place
- Oversees all follow-ups for our guests and responses from connection cards.
- Oversees all advertising, social media, and webpage information
- Serves as an elder and attends elder meetings and deacon meetings
- Oversees the pastoral care for the church family
- Oversees the usage of the church facilities, including weddings and funerals
- All other duties as assigned by the Elder Board
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Meets the Biblical qualifications of a Pastor (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5)
- Formal education in ministry, theology, or a related field
- 3 years of experience in leadership
- Ability to lead the church in carrying out its vision, mission, and core values
- Ability to provide Biblical and relevant preaching
- Ability to guide people to grow in faith and spiritual maturity
- In agreement with the Statement of Faith, Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Strategy (Philosophy of Ministry) of Ashland Community Church.
- Ability to maintain the ministry budget
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Comply with all Ashland Community Church policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
- Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone, with or without hearing aids
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Able to stand for long periods of time
Supervision: The Associate Pastor would report to the Lead Pastor. When the transition transpires, the Lead Pastor works under the authority of the elders of Ashland Community Church.
Hours of Work: Minimum average of 40 hours per week, but it can vary from week to week based on events, program, etc.
